I am writing to request your support of Assemblyman Joseph Morelle's Fairness in Competition bill (NYS Assembly Bill No. A2162). As a coach/wrestler/parent/fan, I can tell you that the current system of state tournament participation is inherently unfair. Athletes should be rewarded for their hard work and determination. Under the current system, this is simply not the case. Despite repeated pleas to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, they simply will not support proportional participation at the state tournament level. Please lend your support to Assemblyman Morrelle's Fairness in Competition bill so this grossly unfair system can be changed and the door opened up for the hard working athletes who deserve what they have earned - a chance to compete at the state level.
