The refusal of the NYSPHSAA to include the New York State Wrestling Coaches Association proposal in a recent survey of coaches has prompted action by the NYSWCA and New York State Assemblyman Joseph Morelle.

On January 25, 2005, Assemblyman Morelle introduced the Fairness in Competition Bill in the New York State Assembly which would require equal opportunity for high school athletes in championship events in New York State. The legislation proposed will force the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Committee to accept a multiple-entry format for the New York State wrestling tournament as California did 30 years ago. Additionally, on February 11, 2005, Senator Tom Libous introduced the legistlation into the New York State senate, putting the bill before both houses of the New York State Legislature.

If you agree that this legislation will finally help establish a fair and competitive state wrestling tournament, you must act to get this legislation passed in the NYS Assembly. How can you do that? Let your Assembly and Senate representative know of your support of the bill.
